Odisha girls continue to shine in 12th SAG, bag 3 golds today

India’s gold run in field and track events of 12th South Asian Games (SAG) continued today as Odisha’s Jauna Murmu won two golds and ace sprinter Srabani Nanda bagged one for the country.

Jauna won her golds in women’s 400m hurdles and 4X400 meter women’s relay events. She delivered her best timing after 2010 as she clocked 57.69 secs for the gold in 400m hurdles.

In women’s 200m, Srabani bagged the gold by clocking 23.91 seconds, while another Odisha icon Dutee Chand won silver by clocking 24.14 secs today.

Coming as it does, only two days after sprinters Nanda and Chand bagged silver and bronze medal respectively in the women 100 meter event of the games on Tuesday, the sports lovers of the state are ecstatic over the wins today.

Earlier Odisha’s Saraswati Rout had won gold in weightlifting (women’s 58 kg) and Mandakini Majhi had won gold in Kho kho (team event) in the SAG.

Murmu, Nanda, Chand, Rout and Majhi are among the 32 female athletes to be part of the 68-member Indian Athletics team for the 12th South Asian Games being held in Guwahati between February 5 and 16. Interestingly, all of them have won medals in their respective events.

India, in the meanwhile, leads the top spot on the medals tally of the 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati. The Indian contingent, so far, has won 238 medals, including 140 gold, 78 silver and 20 bronze in the games.
