Odisha govt approves proposal to restructure labour service cadre

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to make labour directorate more functional and provide quick services to working population in Odisha, the State government approved a proposal to restructure labour service cadre.

The proposal got nod at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at State Secretariat here on Saturday.

With approval of the proposal, the assistant labour officer will be posted at the level of block and urban local bodies. The government increased the sanctioned post in this grade to 419.

As per the decision, there will be two district labour officers for each 25 industrial districts. While one officer will be assigned for enforcement of labour laws and maintenance of industrial relations, another will be responisble to monitor the welfare activities in the labour district.

For prompt action and services, the sanctioned post in this grade has been enhanced to 63.

Meanwhile, the government has merged the posts of assistant labour commissioner and deputy labour commissioner and renamed as the divisional labour commissioner, who will be appointed in each revenue district. New posts in this grade have been increased to 45.

Similarly, the posts of joint labour commissioner-I and II have been merged as the joint labour commissioner. The number of the posts in this grade have been increased to 10 and two new posts of additional commissioner have been created, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi after meeting.
