Odisha govt asks collectors to submit flood damage report by Aug 5

Bhubaneswar, Aug 1:

The Odisha government today asked the district collectors to submit a detailed list of damage of houses and properties in the recent flood in the state by August 5.

In a letter to collectors of the affected districts, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Mohapatra asked the them to assess the extent of damage of crops along with the paddy fields that have been covered with sands by the floodwater.

All the reports should be submitted by August 5, he said.

In view of the death of nine persons who died in the flood, instructions have been given to the concerned district collectors to pay ex-gratia at the rate of Rs 1.5 lakh to each family of the deceased at the earliest, the letter stated.

“On the basis of the report, the state government would sanction the compensation amount that would be handed over to the affected families by August 10,” Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra, deputy relief commissioner, told reporters here.
