Odisha govt awards 44 schools with ‘Quality Primary School Award’

The Odisha government with an objective to cheer up and improve learning standards in primary schools on the basis of infrastructure, past performances and student-teacher ratio on Tuesday awarded 44 schools with Quality Primary School Award.

“Classroom processes continue to impact upon quality of education and remains a major area of concern despite improvements in access, retention and introduction of good curriculum. The award is an attempt to create healthy competition among schools which are equally placed in terms of infrastructure and other facilities,” said School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra after distributing the awards.

The state government which had received 69 proposals from 19 districts divided the schools into three categories of A, B and C. While three schools selected in ‘A’ category received of Rs three lakh each 16 schools under category ‘B’ and rest 25 schools under category ‘C’ received Rs two lakh and Rs one lakh each respectively.

“The award is based on self-appraisal for each school to improve the quality of education by assessing their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities through an informed review process and not target based. Plans are afoot to cover 100 schools from next year,” said Usha Padhee secretary School and Mass Education.
