Odisha govt to begin dengue surveillance from July 26

With rising cases of dengue coming to fore every single day, the Health Department of Odisha Government today announced that it will begin a special dengue surveillance programme starting July 26.

While 1574 cases of dengue have been identified so far in the state, most of the patients have been indentified from Barbil area of Keonjhar district and Jagatpur industrial area of Cuttack. The numbers of fresh cases are declining in Barbil, according to government data presented in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik this evening.

Cuttack district administration is working closely with the municipality, Health Department and Industries Department and using fogging machine, knapsack, sprayer and larvicide to contain the disease.

According to data provided by the Chief Minister’s Office after the meeting, out of 678 that underwent treatment, 504 have recovered completely.

The government has started an awareness campaign starting July 15 with an aim to contain the spread of the disease. As many as 600 volunteers have been deployed in places with higher probability of dengue outbreak as a precautionary measure.

Besides, the Health Department today announced that facilities have been made available at 37 places of the state to get patients checked for dengue free of cost. Further, beds have been reserved at medical college hospitals, district headquarter hospitals and capital hospital for dengue patients.

Patnaik today asked Health Department officials to expand the footprints of the dengue prevention programme further in coordination with Industries and Urban Development Department. He asked the officials to focus on sanitation facilities in industrial areas and urban areas to contain the spread of the vector-borne disease.
