Odisha govt collects Rs 589 cr in excise revenue in Q 1

The Odisha government has collected Rs 589.39 crore as excise revenue in the first quarter of 2014-15 financial year, registering a growth of 21.54% against the corresponding period in 2013-14.

liquorWhile the government had fixed a target of collecting Rs 2150 crore by way of excise revenue for the 2014-15 financial year, it has reported Rs 589.39 crore collection during April-June. It had collected Rs 484.93 crore in April-June in 2013-14, which is  Rs 104.45 crore less than the collection in the first quarter of 2014-15.

The total collection of excise revenue without sales tax and entry tax up to June is Rs 429.35 crores while it was Rs 350.96 crore in the first quarter of 2013-14 fiscal year.

It is to be noted that the total amount of excise revenue collected from Jan to May 2014 was Rs. 988.8 crores. The sale of liquor had jumped manifold during January and May before, during and after the election season in the state, which witnessed simultaneous general and assembly elections in April this year.
