Odisha govt declares summer vacation for all schools from April 26

Odisha government declared summer vacation for all schools from April 26 because of the prevalent heat wave in the state, today.

“ For this year we are announcing summer vacations for schools. The schools will reopen as usual every year in June third week after Rajo,” said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra.

“We will analyse the situation before school reopening. The loss in studies will be made up with extra classes on Saturdays after the class resume”, he said, adding “Even now if any schools have exams going on it came be done in the early morning or evening”.

Speaking about the number of heat strokes in the state Mahapatra said that there are four confirmed deaths in the state so far.

“There were allegations of 88 cases of heat strokes in the state out of which investigations for 32 cases are over. There are four confirmed deaths. Today, I have informed all district collectors, deputy relief commissioners to finish the probe as soon as possible.”

The special relief commissioner appealed to everyone to take precautions and avoid venturing out in the heat.

“The hottest place in India currently Titilagarh and Angul. Looking at these unusually high temperatures everyone should be careful and avoid going out in the heat. I appeal to everyone to take precautions to avoid heatstroke deaths”, he said.

Earlier, the state government had ordered the closure of all government and private schools from April 12 till April 20.This was later extended by six more days to April 26 after the heat wave conditions prevailed across the state.
