Odisha govt directs translation of all rules in Odia

The Odisha government on Monday decided to translate important rules and laws, to be presented in the next Assembly session, in Odia language.

Naveen PatnaikReviewing the performance of the Law department at the State Secretariat here, chief minister Naveen Pantaik assured that the state government would provide adequate manpower for translation of these rules in Odia to complete the work in a time bound manner.

He also informed that to provide legal aid to the people in the rural areas, a legal aid centre would be opened in each panchayat.

Besides, for the administrative benefits, the government has decided to bring the Wakf Board, Haj Committee, Survey Commissioner and Takakhi (divorce) pension under the purview of the department of Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare, Patnaik added.

The chief minister advised the Law Commissioner to examine the archaic and obsolete laws and complete it in a time-bound manner and prepare a list of proposals on abolition or amendment in some of these laws.

He directed the Law department to review the performance of the Law officers at regular intervals, and take necessary steps to make sure that there is no pendency of any departmental cases relating to the recruitment in any court.

In order to curb the rising atrocities on women and children and take appropriate action against the accused, the chief minister advised the department to appoint an independent lawyer and take necessary action by making a list of all cases in coordination with the Home department.

Among others, Law minister Arun Sahu , Development Commissioner UN Behera, commissioner-cum-secretary, Panchayati Raj, DK Singh, commissioner-cum-secretary, SC and ST Development, Surendra Kumar and principal secretary, Law, Bibhu Prasad Routray were present at the meeting.
