Odisha govt rewards Dutee, Shrabani with jobs

The Odisha government today gave appointment letters to ace sprinters Dutee Chand and Shrabani Nanda for their outstanding achievements in national and international events.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today handed over appointment letters to the duo where Duttee has been given the job at Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and Shrabani at Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Limited (OHPC).

While Srabani Nanda has been given the letter of appointment as Junior Manager in OHPC, Dutee Chand has been given the post as an Assistant Manager in OMC.

“For the last decade and a half, it has been the considered policy of the state government to nurture sports talents through quality training and proper infrastructure both in urban and rural locations with particular emphasis on backward and tribal areas of the state. The state adopted a rule for direct recruitment of meritorious sportspersons of the state in Odisha Police last year to recognise their outstanding performance and to provide them the desired financial security. And, under the said rule, 59 sports persons have been provided employment till now,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.

In a programme held at Odisha Bhawan, New Delhi, the athletes were honoured.

“The state has adopted yet another Rule this year for direct recruitment of outstanding sports persons in executive capacities in different state government undertakings, he added.

Chief Minister wished them all success in their sporting careers and expressed his confidence that in future they will represent the country in Olympics and earn laurels for the state and the country.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister inaugurated the Boyanika Handloom Exhibition at Odisha Bhawan specially organised to mark the festive season of Sabitri and Raja and to promote Odisha handlooms in and around Delhi. The handloom exhibition is open to public from May 24, 2016 to June 23. The expo offers a wide range of handloom products like Sonepuri Silk, Khandua, Bomkai, Sambalpuri, Ikat, Berhampuri Sarees, Stoles, Scarves, Bedcovers and dress materials, etc. A few new innovative products such as linen, angavastra of Lord Jagannath and kotpad products are special attractions of the exhibition.

Apart from others, state Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das and Sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marandi were present.
