Bhubaneswar, Aug 15:

The Odisha government, which is in process of preparing a ‘Technology & Innovation Road map – 2035’ for the state, has decided to rope in Indian Road Congress (IRC), Indian Building Congress (IBC) and Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to advise the government on the use of technology and innovation in the road and building sector.

“We have decided to take the advice of the three agencies to prepare a technology and innovation road map in the road and building sector. They will guide us on how to use innovation and technology in these sectors for sustainable growth,” said an official of Planning and Coordination department.

Notably, the Odisha government has decided to prepare the road map in collaboration with Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), an autonomous society under the Union ministry of science & technology.

The government intends to prepare the road map in a participatory manner by engaging different stakeholders — government departments, research & development (R&D) institutes, educational institutes, entrepreneurs, industry, scientists, researchers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and citizens.

It has already sought support and technical inputs from industries like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), National Aluminium Company (Nalco) and Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to prepare the road map.

The road map would focus on how local entrepreneurs can be encouraged to develop new technologies or devise ways to apply existing technologies in a cost effective manner.

The new road map will have plan for setting up a conducive innovation eco-system, setting up fabrication labs, research labs, Science Parks, Advance Learning centers, Incubation center and VC funding scheme.

While it would promote national and international best practice for innovations, the key innovative areas would be environment management, water Purification, fly ash treatment and smart city.
