Bhubaneswar, Sep 1:

Admitting that illegal land deals had indeed taken place at Ghangapatna village near here between 1998 and 2010,
Odisha Revenue minister Bijayshree Routray today asserted that the government would take action against the land grabbers for fraudulently encroaching on government land.

He, however, fell short of naming the influential persons, including ruling party politicians, who have encroached on land in the village.

“The illegal transfer of 76 acres of land had occurred during 1998 to 2010. Action will be taken against the officials, including Tehsildars and Revenue Inspectors, who were in charge during this period. Besides, FIRs would be registered against the land grabbers,” Routray told media persons here.

It is to be noted that the state government had handed over land grabbing and encroachment cases to the crime branch and had asked it to complete the investigation within two months.

According to sources, the Crime Branch has constituted a special team to inquire into the matter.
