Odisha govt to appoint 5000 doctors in coming days: Health Minister

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will give appointment to around 5000 doctors in the coming days, said Health Minister Niranjan Pujari in the State Assembly today while replying to a question by Rairangpur MLA Naba Charan Majhi.

The MLA had expressed concern mentioning that the Rairangpur Sub-divisional Hospital currently has mere six doctors against 37 posts.

Doctors will be appointed in the hospital on priority basis, the minister said.

Replying to another question by MLA Mohan Majhi, the minister said a decision has been taken to increase the number of beds in government healthcare facilities of the state by 21,342 in the next financial year in view of the rise in number of patients.

The minister further said that there should be 100 hospital beds in every 1000 persons while the figure currently stands at 71 in the state.
