Odisha to provide cheap rice to PLO families till Nov 30

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department to continue provision of subsidized rice to Poor Left out (PLO) beneficiaries till November 30 this year.

The state government will spend Rs 53 crore from its own revenue for the purpose, an official release said today.

Since they have been included under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), they will be provided with the benefit till NFSA becomes fully implemented in the state.

Notably, NFSA will be implemented in the state in the first phase from November 1 and in the whole of the state from December 1.

It may be mentioned here that 6, 23, 426 families in 19 districts are provided with 25 kg of rice at rupee one a kilogram under the PLO scheme.
