Odisha govt to put advts instead of individual notices to chit fund depositors for seeking refund

The Odisha government will solicit applications through advertisements in the media for refund of money to depositors of chit fund companies, the properties of which have been confiscated and auctioned.This will be done instead of sending individual notices to depositors of the concerned chit fund firm.

CHIT FUND SCAM

A decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting between Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry probing the chit fund scam and top officials of the state government on Tuesday.

“Justice Das reviewed the progress made till date. We briefed him on the progress made so far and discussed with him on what we would in the coming days. It was decided to put up advertisements instead of serving individual notices. The objective of the government is to expedite refund to depositors who have lost their money. We discussed on how to achieve that, however, no deadline was fixed,” said A P Padhi chief secretary briefing newsmen after the meeting.

Sources said the meeting decided to expedite refund to duped depositors from the proceeds of auction of confiscated properties of the concerned chit fund firm.

Duped depositors of the concerned chit fund firm will be required to apply to the authorized officer/ADM who would have confiscated properties of the same firm, sources revealed.

This will be helpful in distributing money obtained through auction of confiscated properties to depositors, the sources added.

The meeting was attended by Vishal Dev special secretary Finance, Sushil Mohapatra additional secretary Home, R N Pallai special secretary IT, Bijay Sharma special DG Crime Branch, Arun Bothra IG Crime Branch among others.
