Odisha govt to recruit 410 policemen to escort under trials

The state government Tuesday approved filling up of 410 vacancies under different categories in the Odisha police.

Persons appointed against these newly created posts will be required to serve in all police districts of the state and also under the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, said official sources.

These men will be deployed for escorting under trial prisoners from prison to courts and vice versa, the sources added.

That apart, in view of the increased requirement for civilian police, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered for withdrawal of three battalions of policemen from the Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP).

Notably, under the newly approved 410 posts process will begin for appointment of 20 sub-inspector rank officers, 40 assistant sub-inspector rank officers, 50 havildar rank officers and 300 in the rank of constables.

Personnel of Armed Police Reserve (APR), currently being deployed for escorting under trial prisoners will be withdrawn and deployed in law and order duty, the sources said.
