While arhar dal would be sold at Rs 140 per kilogram, mung dal would be priced at Rs 110 a kilogram. The consumers would be allowed to purchase a kilogram of any variety each.

In the first phase, the programme would be rolled out at six urban areas of the state such as: Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Brahmapur and Balasore.

As per information provided by the Secretary of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, a letter has been sent to collectors of all districts to initiate sale of pulses on this model throughout the state.

Notably, this model was recently started in Bargarh to facilitate the kitchen essentials to consumers at an affordable price point.

This move of the government also holds significance in the light of malgodown traders yesterday announcing to halt the import of pulses in protest against continuous raids.
