Odisha govt urges Centre to release funds for MGNREGA work

Bhubaneswar, May 1:

The Odisha government today urged the Union Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to release an amount of Rs 666.23 crore under the MGNREGS to carry out developmental activities that had been stopped for lack of funds.

The state government has requested the Ministry to release the second part of first tranche of central share for the first quarter as per the agreed labour budget.

“I am to request you to kindly consider the immediate release of an amount Rs 666.23 crore to meet the requirement of fund for the first quarter as per the agreed labour budget,” said Panchayati Raj secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh in a letter to joint secretary in the MoRD Aparajita Sarangi.

The MoRD has released Rs 13339.80 lakh as first part of first tranche of Central share last month. The state government claimed that the total amount has been spent in the meanwhile.

The government has also urged to adjust the amount of Rs 28127.44 lakh that has been released as excess state share during 2013-14.
