Odisha GRP nabs four of a gang involved in looting train passengers

Bhubaneswar, July 15:

An Odisha Government Railway Police (GRP) team today arrested four members of a gang of dacoits who were involved in looting train passengers for the last several years.Train looter gang

Police have seized one sword, one 9 mm pistol, chili powder sachets, liquor, a knife and cash from the accused.

The accused,  identified as Satyaban Pradhan (20) alias Raju of Tarasingi and Sarat Das alias Lalu (19) of Kodala in Ganjam district, Pramod Das (20) alias Petu of Nirakarpur and Mahesh Chandra Sahu (29) of Banapur in Khordha ditrict,  were booked under sections 399, 402 of IPC and 25/27 Arms Act.

The four were forwarded to a local court today, GRP sources said.

Acting on a tip off, the GRP team under the supervision of IIC Soubhagya Kumar Swain nabbed the accused while they were planning to commit dacoity near Buddha Nagar slum here in the wee hours today.

Though police was able to arrest  four gang members,  six others managed to escape during the raid. Train Looter gang

GRP IIC Swain said the gang had been looting train passengers since long and all its members are habitual offenders. There are multiple cases of  dacoity, robbery and chain snatching pending against them at different police stations in the state including Bhubaneswar.

“Effort is on to arrest the other six accused persons who are on the run,” the IIC said.
