Odisha Health dept seeks police help in preventing attacks on doctors, hospitals

Worried over the growing number of attacks on doctors, including instances of murder, in the state, the Health and Family Welfare department of the Odisha government has urged the Home department to ensure safety and security of the physicians as well as healthcare facilities.
In her letter to the Home secretary, Health secretary Arati Ahuja has urged him to provide safety and security to the doctors and other medical practitioners working at various hospitals and other health facilities in the state.
Apprising the Home secretary of a number of recent incidents, Ms Ahuja has appealed to him to direct every police station to provide security to the doctors, who are now living in fear following a series of gruesome attacks on doctors by miscreants.
There have also been s number of violent incidents in which the hospitals and clinics have been ransacked by angry mob.
Ms Ahuja also requested the Home secretary to issue instructions to the police to lodge FIR as per provisions of the Orissa Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2008, which is meant to prevent violence causing injury or danger to life of medicare service persons and damage to property of medicare service institutions.
A doctor is like a god. But still why attacks on them? Attacks on doctors will reduce when doctors wiil perform their duties honestly. See the patients in hospitals . Doctors should not divert them to their own private clinics and stop prescribing medicines beyond actual requirements. This does not apply to all. Many are honest, only a few are money minded, who suck blood and have lost their lives.
