Vice Chancellor of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University Prof Amit Banerjee today announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased in the fire mishap at SUM Hospital here.

Banerjee also announced free treatment of all the injured patients. The hospital authorities have suspended fire officer, manager and 2 staff for dereliction of duty, he informed.

Earlier in the day, three electricians of the hospital were suspended on same grounds.

Notably, fire broke out in the Intensive Care Unit of the Dialysis ward in the first floor of the SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar due to electric short circuit last evening.
