Odisha hospital fire: Death toll mounts to 26

The death toll in the Sum Hospital fire mishap mounted to 26 today as a person undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital here succumbed to injuries.

The deceased was identified as Kartikeswar Das of GGP Colony in Rasulgarh area of Bhubaneswar. Das was shifted to Apollo Hospital for treatment after fire broke out in SUM Hospital on the fateful day.

Notably, four person had died yesterday while undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

It may be recalled here that 19 patients undergoing treatment at the SUM Hospital had died due to asphyxiation owing to the massive fire on October 17 which originated from the dialysis ward on the first floor and spread to the ICU on the same floor. In the incident, over 100 others sustained injuries and were shifted to various government and private hospitals.

With one more relocated patient succumbing today, the toll has risen to 26.
