Odisha House Committee on paddy MSP to meet President Kovind

Bhubaneswar: The House Committee of Odisha Assembly on paddy MSP has decided to meet President Ram Nath Kovind over its demand, informed BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma after a meeting of the panel today.

The committee will seek an appointment with the President and a memorandum will be submitted to him urging for hike of paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal, Das Burma said. “It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister didn’t give time to meet the committee,” he said.

The MLA also criticised the BJP for absence of its two members– KV Singh Deo and Bibhuti Bhusan Harichandan– in the meeting saying that the party is not concerned about the development of farmers.

Worth mentioning, Speaker of the Odisha Assembly, members of BJD, Congress and Leader of Opposition were today present at the meeting of the House Committee.

Notably, an unanimous resolution was passed in the Odisha Assembly to demand revision of MSP of paddy to Rs 2,930 per quintal. An all-party House Committee under the chairmanship of the Speaker was constituted to discuss the issue with the Prime Minister. However, there was no response to a request of the panel seeking an appointment with the PM.

It may be recalled here that the Centre had on July 4 increased the MSP for paddy by Rs 200 per quintal.
