Odisha House panel peeved at tardy development, state of schools in Kandhamal district

The House committee on ST and SC Welfare of the Odisha Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction over the tardy pace of development work and the poor state of the education system in Kandhamal district.

A four-member committee, led by Birmaharajpur MLA Padmanav Behera, today arrived in the district on a one-day visit to oversee the ongoing development work in the district.

The committee visited some residential school, managed by the state SC and ST Development department and reviewed the ongoing construction work of other residential schools.

The committee also visited the new bridge at Sahipadar constructed by the ITDA, a tribal haat and a tribal high school at Gochhapada, boys’ and girls’ high schools managed by the SC and ST Development department at Phringia and a Kanyashram at Pakana village near Phulbani.

The committee later had a review meeting with senior district officials.

Talking to OST, committee member Manohar Randhari expressed dissatisfaction over the poor state of most schools in the district.

The committee members later told the media that it would submit a report on tardy construction of toilets and other problems, including water supply, in residential schools and hostels in the district.
