Hubby of woman teacher beats up students for failing to draw ‘umbrella’

Patnagarh: At a time when schools have been declared as punishment-free zones, a bizarre incident has been reported from Jalapali Primary School of Bolangir district today in which husband of a woman teacher beat up students for failing to complete some tasks.

As per reports, Soudagar Meher, husband of woman teacher Laxmi Meher entered the class room and asked students of Class I and II to draw an umbrella. When students failed to draw the art, Saudagar thrashed as many as 10 students with a bamboo stick.

After being beaten up, two students fell unconscious. Later the duo were admitted to the Ghasian Community Health Centre by their parents.

Also, parents of the students lodged a complaint at Laramba police station in connection with the case.

In the meantime, the Assistant Block Education Officer (ABEO) Suresh Mishra visited the school and inquired about the incident. However, the official refused to comment on the matter before media. Later in the evening, the ABEO suspended the woman teacher as per the directive of the Bolangir Collector.

On the other hand, husband of the teacher has been absconding following the incident.
