Odisha to invest Rs 40K Cr for Power Infra

Bhubaneswar, Jan 23:

The Government has decided to invest about Rs 40,000 crore for additional power production and bringing in reforms in the transmission and distribution (T&D) system in the state, according to official sources.

Out of the total Rs 40K crore investment, Rs 15,000 crore has been earmarked towards upgradation of T&D system and the rest Rs 25,000 crore for increasing the power generation in the state.power pic

The gross amount to be invested for power production includes Rs 11, 000 crore in OPGC and Rs 14,000 crore in OPTCL, sources revealed.

“Odisha Government has envisaged supplying electricity round-the-clock for 24 hours to each and every subdivisional headquarters in the state with priority on natural-calamity affected districts,” State Energy Secretary P K Jena clarified.

“Besides, there is a proposal being mooted by the government to set up more under-earth cables to supply power across every district in the state. Plans are afoot to include areas under this programme within a radius of 50 kms from the sea in the coastal belt of the state,” Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Gridco and OPTCL, Hemant Sharma said.

“OPTCL is in the process of chalking out comprehensive programmes to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the time of natural calamity or disasters occurring in the state,” Shri Sharma said adding, “efforts are on to provide power from a grid in case of failure from another grid during such calamity.
