Odisha launches website for easy access to scholarships for students

Bhubaneswar, May 15:

The Higher Education department of the Odisha government has launched a dedicated website www.medhabruti.org through which students can get detailed information and register themselves for various scholarships on offer to pursue higher studies, both in the general and technical categories.

The launch of the website is aimed at simplifying the process of availing the scholarship for students, departmental sources said.

“Under the current system, it often took weeks – in come cases up to three months – to complete all the formalities for availing the scholarship. Through this website, we are trying to cut this period down to 12 days,” Higher education minister Pradeep Panigrahy said.

Curiously though, while the department has claimed that the website ‘has launched’ the website, all that one gets on logging on to this site is a welcome message from the Higher Education department, besides a bland, off-putting “Medhabruti online application will be soon …”

These “e-medhabruti” scholarships are to be granted to the students on ‘merit-cum-means’ basis irrespective of caste or any other considerations. The scholarship amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of the student. A special girls’ merit scholarship for Technical and Professional courses will also be awarded to girl students. Overall, a total 24, 544 students will be benefited through this scheme every year, official sources said.

Students of both general as well as technical education would be eligible to apply for the E-Medha Bruti.

For the general students the Junior Merit (+2 Course), Senior Merit (+3 course) and PG Merit scholarships are being offered. Similarly for Engineering, MBBS, BDS & students of other professional courses can also apply for availing this opportunity as per the norms.
