Odisha likely to receive rainfall

Odisha is likely to receive rainfall as cyclonic storm Kyant forming over the Bay of Bengal weakened into a deep depression, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

“Rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha,” said an IMD bulletin.

It said, under the impact of the deep depression, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in coastal Odisha.

The deep depression moved further west-southwestwards with a speed of 18 kmph and lay centred at about 415 km south of Gopalpur.

It is most likely to move west-southwestwards and weaken further into a depression during the next 24 hours.

“Surface wind from southeasterly direction with speed reaching 45 to 50 kmph with gusting 55 kmph would prevail along and off south Odisha coast and 35 to 40 kmph gusting to 45 kmph over north Odisha coast,” said the bulletin.

Sea condition would be rough to very rough over south Odisha coast and moderate to rough over north Odisha coast.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along south Odisha coast and to be cautious while venturing into the sea along north Odisha coast. (IANS)
