Odisha man administered two doses of COVID-19 vaccine in 5 minutes

Baripada: In what could be termed as a major blunder, two doses of COVID-19 vaccine (Covishield) were administered to a 51-year-old man at Khuntapura village under Betnoti block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.

As per reports, Prasanna Kumar Sahu of Bachuripada village had gone to the temporary vaccination camp at a school for receiving the first dose of the vaccine after booking slot online.

Following administration of the vaccine, he was advised by the nurse to stay at the vaccination centre for 30 minutes for observation. While he was sitting on a chair and having rest, the nurse erroneously administered another dose of the vaccine to him, after around five minutes.

A panic-stricken Prasanna was asked by the healthcare workers present at the centre to undergo observation for two hours. They also told him not to disclose the matter and visit the nearby government hospital in the case of adversity.

On the other hand, Rajendra Behera, supervisor of the vaccination centre, said the vaccine recipient didn’t leave the chair after being administered the first dose. The healthcare workers had become tired after administering vaccines to many persons as they were standing all along, for which the concerned nurse gave him the second jab unintentionally, he said.

Prasanna’s condition was stated to be stable.
