Odisha man arrested for rape bid on sis-in-law

A 33-year-old man, a resident of the Odisha capital, was nabbed today by the commissionerate police for allegedly attempting to rape his sister-in-law on April 24 night.

The accused was identified as Sudarshan Gamang of Biseshwar Basti under Saheed Nagar police limits. Soon after his arrest, Gamal was produced in a local court here today.

Police nabbed the accused after acting on the complaint filed by Sumitra Behera on the day of the incident.

According to the complaint lodged by Sumitra, sister-in-law of the accused who is unmarried, had visited Sudarshan’s house on April 24. The same night, while his wife was sleeping, Sudarshan slyly went to the place where Sumitra was sleeping and attempted to rape her.

She went to the police station the next day and lodged a complaint against Sudarshan based on which police registered a case number-206/15. After a thorough investigation, police today arrested the accused from the basti and slapped charges under sections 341, 323, 354 and 506 of IPC against him.
