Odisha man attempts to rape daughter-in-law, sets her on fire

Baripada: In a highly shocking incident, a person allegedly set his daughter-in-law on fire after attempting to rape her in Rairangpur area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

While Gopal Khemka, the accused, reportedly committed the act yesterday, police today arrested him from Jamshedpur after the father of the victim lodged a complaint at Rairangpur police station, on the basis of which a case has been registered under Sections 376 (A), 201, 506 and 34 of IPC.

As per the allegation of the woman’s father, Khemka tried to outrage her modesty and she opposed the move of her father-in-law following which he torched her by pouring kerosene over her body.

The woman has sustained 70 per cent burn injuries. Her husband was also injured while trying to save her. Both were initially admitted to a hospital in Rairangpur and later shifted to Tata Memorial Hospital in Jamshedpur as their condition deteriorated.
