Odisha man gets 10-yr RI for raping minor

Bhadrak: A local court in Odisha today sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after convicting him for raping a minor girl.

Bhadrak District Sessions Judge Anup Kumar Chandan on Tuesday sentenced Kantia Sheikh Usmani (42) to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl of Puruna Bazaar of Alalalpur in December 2015.

In addition to the sentence, the court imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on Usmani. In event of failure to pay the fine amount, he will be required to undergo additional imprisonment for six months, the court said in its order.

As per case records, one Jakhila Bibi of Puruna Bazaar of Alalalpur had lodged an FIR with the police on December 21, 2015, that while her minor daughter was returning from school and had gone to attend nature’s call she was raped by Usmani in a nearby graveyard.
