Odisha man gets life term for raping, murdering woman

Kendrapara: The Court of District and Sessions Judge Court here today awarded life imprisonment to a person for raping and murdering a woman in 2007.

Dillip Barik, the convict, had a love affair with a woman of Chandol area in the district and impregnated her. On September 12, 2007, Barik and his friends had gang-raped and murdered her.

A case was registered in this connection at the Kendrapara Sadar police station under Sections 302, 376 (g), 201 and 34 of the IPC. Subsequently, Barik was arrested.

Adjudicating the case, Judge Basudev Panda today awarded Barik the punishment after taking into account the statements of 14 witnesses.

On the other hand, locals have expressed displeasure over non-arrest of other accused after 12 years of the incident.
