Odisha man held for killing 2-yr-old daughter under influence of alcohol

Phulbani: Police today arrested a person for allegedly killing his 2-year-old daughter in an inebriated state by throwing her on ground at Mundalbali village under Daringibadi police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

According to reports, a verbal duel escalated between Arabinda Pradhan of the village and his wife Ritima over some family issues last night. It soon took an ugly turn as Arabinda, who was under the influence of alcohol, started chasing his wife to attack prompting her to run away from the house.

In the meantime, he noticed his daughter playing at the verandah of the house. Losing his cool, Arabinda lifted her and threw the child on ground. The girl sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the Daringibadi Community Health Centre (CHC).

She was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital but succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

The villagers nabbed Arabinda and handed him over to police following which he was arrested.

“On the basis of a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased girl, police have arrested the accused. He will be forwarded to court today,” a police official said.
