Odisha man run over while trying to board moving train

Government Railway police (GRP) recovered the body of a 66-year-old person from Hemgiri railway station in Sundargarh district of Odisha this morning.
According to sources in the Jharsuguda GRP, at around 10 pm on Friday night, they received information from a Hemgiri railway station official that a person had been run over by the Mumbai-Howrah Mail. A GRP official was posted on the spot on Friday night.
On Saturday morning, a Jharsuguda GRP team reached Hemgiri railway station and recovered the body. The face of the man was badly mutilated. To identify the body, GRP officials searched the pocket of the deceased from where they got an Aadhaar card, which helped them to identify the body as that of Avdesh Yadav (66), a resident of Hari Om Bihar para, Brajarajnagar.
GRP contacted the son of the deceased Subhas Prasad Yadav, an advocate in Brajrajnagar, who confirmed that it was his father. The body was handed over to him for cremation after autopsy.
According to the sequence of events reconstructed by the GRP on the basis of eyewitness accounts and information provided by Subhash, Avdesh Yadav had gone Durg to drop Subhas’ wife and his daughter-in-law and was returning by Mumbai-Howrah Mail to Brajrajnagar.
Avdesh got down from the train to get some water when the train made an unscheduled halt at Hemgiri station at about 9 pm on Friday night since a goods train was ahead of it on the same track. By the time he returned with water, the train had started moving. In trying to mount the running train, Avdesh fell off on the tracks and was run over, the GRP surmised.
“After conducting post-mortem on the body, we have handed it over to his family members,” said Kuldip Patel, ASI, Jharsuguda GRP.
