Odisha Matric exam row: ABVP activists attempt to ransack BSE office

Cuttack: Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), while protesting before the Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE) office here today over the circulation of Matric exam questions on WhatsApp, allegedly tried to ransack properties and were detained by police.

According to reports, more than 30 ABVP activists, demanding action against concerned officials over the incident, attempted to barge into the BSE office during which a clash erupted between them and security guards. Besides, they allegedly manhandled some staff at the office.

On being informed, police reached the spot and detained several ABVP activists. The cops also resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse some activists.

While three activists sustained injuries in the clash and were admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here, the BSE lodged an FIR over the act of the ABVP activists.

“We came here to submit a memorandum over the question paper leak incident. We didn’t get any satisfactory answer from the authorities,” an activist said.

“They were staging protest but later turned violent and started attacking our staff besides trying to enter inside the office forcefully,” a BSE official said.

On the other hand, Cuttack DCP informed that policemen will be deployed at the BSE office till conclusion of the examinations to avoid further untoward incident. Action will be taken against those who were involved in today’s incident, the official added.

Worth mentioning, photos of question papers of the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination (Matric exam) conducted by the Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE) had surfaced on WhatsApp during the exam and gone viral.
