“We are doing everything possible to ensure smooth conduct of the Nabakalebar festival. I have discussed the issues with my departmental officers, Puri Collector, Chairman of the Puri Municipality and Chief Engineer of the Urban Development Department. We have discussed the works, their progress and the funds required to complete the rest of the work,” said Minister Singh Deo.

Keeping in mind the possibility of rains during Nabakalebar Rath Yatra, transport, parking and sewerage system of the city continue to be matters of concern.

However, work on the sewerage system is moving fast and only five kilometres of sewerage work is left now. The administration has assured that they would put in place an alternate system in case the work doesn’t get completed by the deadline.

The minister today took stock of progress made to the drinking water supply in the pilgrim city as well.

“The state Government is also working to set up 120 stand posts around the beach area and set up tube wells on Bada Danda (Grand Road) and parking areas to facilitate safe drinking water to visitors,” Arvind Agarwal, Collector of Puri.
