Odisha Minister urges Centre to extend dateline for submission of UG mark sheet at Central varsities

Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure no meritorious student from Odisha and other States is left out from taking admission in the Central Universities, Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo today urged the Centre to direct the varsities to extend dateline for students to submit Under-Graduate final year and final semester results and mark sheets.

Sahoo wrote to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and mentioned meritorious students of Odisha suffered as some Central Universities did not adhere to the UGC prescribed dateline.

Due to second wave of Covid-19, the academic calendar has been badly affected. Considering this the UGC had issued guidelines for higher education institutions to ensure a uniform academic calendar across the country.

In July 2021, the UGC had asked the educational institutions to complete UG final year or final semester examinations by August 31, 2021. Admission to PG courses should be completed by September 30, 2021. Commencement of PG classes will be from October 1, 2021. In case of delay in publication of result of qualifying exams, the class can be commenced by October 18, 2021.

The Odisha Higher Education Minister further informed UG final year or final semester exams in the State have been completed by August 31, 2021 and the results are expected to be published by September 15, 2021. In some higher educational institutions in the State, the results have already been published, he added.

Elaborating the issue, Sahoo stated some Central Universities have deviated from the UGC-prescribed datelines and have already completed from their admission process in August 2021. As a result, students from Odisha have been debarred from taking admission in the Central varsities when they failed to produce the mark sheets or results, the letter wrote.
