Odisha Minister’s son, arrested for attacking cops, sent to jail

Keonjhar: Debashish Patra, son of Odisha’s School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra, was sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected by a local court here today.

According to reports, the Anandpur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court rejected the bail application and remanded him into judicial custody.

The Keonjhar police had arrested Debashish yesterday from Chhatia-Tangi area in Jajpur district on charges of attacking a police team near Padana village on Tuesday night.

Two cases were registered against seven persons, including the minister’s son, at Ghasipura police station yesterday for allegedly assaulting cops in a village.

Sources said, at least five police personnel sustained injuries following a scuffle with the locals of Padna village in the district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the police team comprising Anandpur SDPO Maheswar Sethi had gone to Padna village to arrest one Pradeep Sahoo, reportedly a BJD supporter, in connection with a fight between the members of BJD and Sana Sena recently.

Angry over the action by police, supporters of Sahoo started attacking the cops, forcing them leaving the place empty handed.
