Odisha minor girl gangrape: Cong observes Koraput bandh over these demands

Koraput: The Odisha unit of Congress today observed a seven-hour bandh in Koraput district over the sensational incident of a Class-IX minor girl allegedly gangraped by armed men suspected to be security personnel at Sorispadar forest near Kunduli Haat under Pottangi police limits in the district on October 10.

While shops, business establishments, educational institutions, various government and private institutions remained closed, vehicular movement including bus services came to a grinding halt due to the bandh from 6 am to 1 pm.

The demand of the Congress, as said by Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, are immediate arrest of the culprits, Rs 50 lakh assistance for the victim by the state government and proper arrangement to facilitate her education.

“Even after seven days of the incident, the culprits are yet to be arrested. The Crime Branch investigation is not yielding any fruitful results. The incident would have created shockwaves in the country if it had taken place in any other area. As Koraput is a tribal-dominated district, the state government is ignoring the matter,” said Bahinipati.

On the other hand, the Maoists are also observing a 12-hour bandh in the district today protesting the incident. The red rebels had earlier denied their involvement in the alleged gangrape.
