Odisha: Miscreants wake up, bind elderly couple before robbery

Sakhigopal: A major dacoity was reported from Sakhigopal area late on Friday night indicating deteriorating law and order in Puri district.

The residents were panicked after cash and jewelries worth lakhs were looted from an elderly couple under Sakhigopal police limits.

According to reports, around 7-10 members of a dacoity gang barged into ground floor of a two-storey building owned by an elderly person Jadab Nayak at around 2.00 am and fastened tenant Gadadhar Rath and his wife Kalyani Rath after awakening them from sleep. They broke open a cupboard and looted Rs 40,000 cash and more than 40 gram gold jewelries.

Later, the miscreants moved to first floor where the house owner and his family were sleeping. They looted around 200 gm gold and 500 gm silver ornaments and cash. The loot operation lasted around 40 minutes at gun point.

“While the looters were approaching the top floor, we tried to call the police. After broke the main door, I threw my mobile phone from our balcony to the garden out of fear. They managed to capture us and threatened to kill our parents and children,” said a daughter of the house owner.

“Two of the miscreants were speaking in Odia and rests were talking in Hindi but not fluently. We appealed to them to take away everything but spare us and family. They tied everyone with rope, thrashed me and looted all the gold jewelries that I had worn and from my bag,” she said.

Receiving information, the police reached the house and initiated probe into the loot case.
