Odisha MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria resigns formally

Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA from Koraput, Krushna Chandra Sagaria today formally resigned from the legislator post. He met the Odisha Assembly Speaker and submitted his resignation letter.

Sagaria had earlier announced about his resignation on October 30. However, he had not submitted his resignation letter on that day due to absence of the Speaker.

On being asked by reporters about the possibility of quitting the Congress, Sagaria said he will continue to be in the party.

Worth mentioning, he had decided to resign stating that he has no moral rights of holding the position after the Kunduli ‘gangrape’ and suicide incident.

“I feel I have failed to provide justice to the victim girl. If I am unable to give justice to a poor dalit girl using the constitutional post I was entrusted by the people, I have no moral rights of holding the position anymore,” Sagaria had said in a statement.

He had successfully contested the 2014 assembly polls in the state as a Congress candidate and was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Koraput Vidhan Sabha constituency.

It may be recalled here that a minor girl was allegedly gangraped in a forest near Kunduli under Pottangi police limits in Koraput district in October, last year. She had allegedly committed suicide in her house on January 22.
