Odisha MLA tests positive for Covid for third time

Bhubaneswar: Sukanta Nayak, BJP MLA from Nilagiri tested positive for Covid-19 for third time within a period of 18 months.

Nayak tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday and has been in isolation at home.
In July 2020, the legislator had first contracted Covid-19 and again in September the same year.

Nayak’s swab samples have been sent for genome sequencing. He has already received two doses of Covid vaccine.

Official sources at Health Department said more than 50 MLAs, six MPs and at least 11 ministers in the State have been infected since 2020.

The State reported 10,059 fresh Covid-19 cases today, a biggest single-day spike in over seven months. The tally has mounted to 11.02 lakh.

The death toll also rose to 8,472 with three more fatalities — one each in Angul, Kendrapara and Nayagarh districts in last 24 hours.
