Odisha: Motorcycle catches fire after colliding with roadside tree; driver dead

Bhanjanagar: In a tragic incident, one person was burnt alive and another critically injured when a motorcycle they were riding caught fire after colliding with a roadside tree. The mishap occurred today near Baradanda Chhak on Bhanjanagar-Dasapalla road.

Eyewitnesses said driver of the two-wheeler lost control while negotiating a curve near Baradanda Chhak and hit the roadside tree. The impact of collision was so much that the two-wheeler caught fire immediately. The motorcyclist, Kanhu Charan Nayak from Benipalli village under Belaguntha block was burnt alive whereas pillion rider and nephew Sagar Behera sustained grievous injuries.

The locals tried to douse the fire and save Nayak’s life, but they failed. Behera was rescued and rushed to the Bhanjanagar hospital. He was referred to the MKCG hospital in Berhampur.

Nayak and Behera were going towards Dasapalla when they met with the accident.

The police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
