Odisha MP urges Goyal for rail-cum-road bridge in Koraput

Bhubaneswar: Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka has written to Railways Minister Piyush Goyal urging the latter for construction of rail-cum-road bridge over Kolab reservoir in Koraput district.

In the letter, Ulaka has mentioned that various villages and habitations situated near Kolab reservoir have been cut off from the mainland due to submergence.

“Bodasuku and Lankaput Gram Panchayats are situated about 5 km away from the district headquarters of Koraput. But due to submergence, 25,000 residents have to cross 60-70 km via Nandapur and Semiliguda to reach Koraput. It is to mention that there is a single rail line with bridge over Kolab reservoir. The Kottavalasa-Kirandul line has been approved for doubling and work is in progress,” the MP wrote.

Ulaka has requested for consideration of rail-cum-road bridge in 500 meters section in Kolab region which will allow road connectivity to these cut off areas and increase access of communication, health, education and other facilities to the residents. This would be an important initiative in tackling left wing extremism in the district, he added.

“I would sincerely request you to kindly look into the matter for immediate construction of Railway-Cum-Road Bridge on 2nd Line over Kolab reservoir between Suku and Koraput in order to facilitate direct road communications to villages of Bodasuku and Lankaput Gram Panchayats,” the MP urged.
