Odisha MPs seek GI tag for Kendrapara Rasabali

Bhubaneswar: BJD MPs Subhash Singh, Munna Khan and Mamata Mohanta today met Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at his Parliament Office in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum seeking Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Kendrapara Rasabali.

“Kendrapara Rasabali originated in Baladevjew Temple more than 400 years ago. It is deep-fried patties of cheese that are soaked in thickened milk. Several people in Kendrapara district of Odisha depend on its sale for livelihood. However, due to improper marketing strategies and misuse of its name, it has failed to gain widespread recognition,” they said in the letter.

The MPs urged the ministry to consider conferring a Geographical Indication tag on Kendrapara Rasabali as it will provide a distinct identity to the sweet delicacy while also building its reputation in the market, nationally and internationally.
