Odisha officer suspended for Ranpur NAC poll list faux pas

A day after the filing of nomination papers began for the Ranpur Notified Area Council (NAC) in Nayagarh district, the Odisha government today suspended the Ranpur Additional Tehsildar for discrepancies in seat reservation for the election following which it had to be rescheduled to May 5.

Notably, the District Collector Hemant Kumar Padhi had served a show-cause notice on the Election officer and Ranpur Additional Tehsildar Anil Patnaik after the goof up.

Amid hue and cry, the Ranpur Additional Tehsildar was shunted out and replaced by Nayagarh Sub Collector as Election Officer.

As per the revised schedule for the election notified by the State Election Commission, the filing of nomination papers for the Ranpur NAC election began on April 13. It would continue till April 18.

The scrutiny of nominations will be done on April 20. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 23, after which the final list of candidates contesting the poll will be made public.

While electors will cast their votes on May 5, counting will be done on the following day, May 6. After the counting of ballots is over, the name of the winning candidates will be declared.
