Rayagada, Feb 17:
Police recovered the body of a District Welfare Officer (DWO) inside his office room in Odisha’s Rayagada district today.
The deceased, identified as Dhaneswar Prusty, was recently transferred from Kuchinda in Sambalpur district to Rayagada district headquarters on promotion as DWO under ST and SC Development department.
Earlier he was working as a special officer in Kuchinda.
According to sources, Prusty had gone to his office this morning for work. Later, he entered his office room and shut the door.
During the lunch hour, some staff, present at the office went to his room and called him up. But as there was no response, they informed the police.
Following information, a police team led by district SP K Siva Subramani rushed to the spot. After breaking open the door, police found the body of Prusty hanging from the ceiling.
The body was later taken for post mortem.
Investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the suicide, police said.
