Odisha: One drowns during selfie bid at Kanshbahal Dam; another goes missing

Rourkela: Trying to take selfie with a mobile phone at Kanshbahal Dam in Sundargarh district cost dearly to a youth as he drowned in the water reservoir after his legs slipped today afternoon.

Another youth and friend of the deceased also fell into the dam and has been missing till filing of this report.

One Pramod Parida from Basanti Colony along with Sumant Dey from Brahmapur Basti and three others went to Kanshbahal Dam for a picnic.

An eyewitness said while taking selfie with a mobile phone on the dam’s embankment, Pramod and Sumant fell into the water reservoir.

Some locals immediately swung into action and rescued Pramod. They then sent him to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.

After receiving information, the Fire personnel reached the spot and launched an operation to trace Sumant. Latest reports suggest the rescuers were yet to retrieve him from the dam.
