Odisha: Padma Shri Purnamasi Jani hospitalised

Bhubaneswar: Divine poetess from Odisha, Padma Shri Purnamasi Jani has been hospitalised with symptoms of fever and indigestion.

The 77-year-old tribal poetess was admitted to the Khajuripada Community Health Centre in Kandhamal district on Sunday.

Sources said that Jani is under treatment at the hospital under supervision of Dr. Uttam Kumar Biswal.

Purnamasi Jani, popularly known as Tadisaru Bai in Kandhamal district, has penned over a lakh poems and devotional songs.

Born in Charipada village under Khajuripada block of Kandhamal district, Jani had never been to school. But, she has composed over 50,000 devotional songs in Kui, Odia and Sanskrit languages.

In 2021, she was conferred with Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, for her contribution to art and devotional music.
