[Odisha Panchayat Polls 2022 Final Result] Oppn decimated: BJD records best-ever figures

Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJP and Congress have bitten the dust in the Odisha Panchayat Polls-2022 as the ruling BJD not only secured a mammoth victory but also created history by winning 766 Zilla Parishad Zones (one uncontested), the highest-ever by any party in rural polls in the state.

BJP and Congress stood at a distant 2nd and 3rd position with victory in mere 42 and 37 Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats, respectively.

While independent candidates emerged victorious in 3 ZP zones, nominees of other parties won 4 seats.

The BJD received a total of 1,10,89,712 votes (52.73%) in its favour out of 2,10,28,403 valid votes, followed by BJP with 63,23,746 votes (30.07%), Congress with 28,54,398 votes (13.57%), Others (4,79,334 votes) and Independent (2,81,213 votes).

Displaying absolute domination, the BJD recorded clean sweep of seats in four districts– Bhadrak (28), Deogarh (7), Jajpur (39) and Jharsuguda (9).

This apart, it won majority of the ZP seats in the rest 26 districts and is all set to form Zilla Parishad in all the 30 districts of the state.

Clean sweep by BJD in Deogarh and Jharsuguda holds significance for the party and is likely to boost the morale of its leaders and workers as Opposition had won the two districts and formed Zilla Parishad in the 2017 Panchayat Polls.

Balangir, Bargarh, Deogarh, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Rayagada and Jharsuguda are the ten districts that were won by the Opposition in the 2017 Panchayat Polls.

By winning 766 Zilla Parishad Zones, the BJD also made a huge improvement in the number of seats won by the party as it had secured 476 zones in 2017.

On the other hand, BJP’s performance is the most dismal in the 2022 Panchayat Polls as the saffron party had a highly promising performance in 2017 with victory in 297 ZP zones.

Congress’ number of winning seats also got reduced from 60 in 2017 to 37 in 2022.

Below is party-wise final result of the Odisha Panchayat Polls-2022.
